The global pharmaceutical industry waste management market, where the United States is a leader, will reach almost USD 2 billion by 2025. This is about the money that pharmaceutical manufacturers spend on manufacturing waste recycling or gain profit from reutilization.
The industry all over the world, including Ukraine, makes every effort to reduce the negative environmental impact.
Recently, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine passed the draft law on waste management in the first reading.
If this law is adopted, we will be significantly closer to Europe. Farmak, certainly, has adhered to the European waste management norms and standards long ago. We sort and transfer hazardous waste and waste that can be reutilized for destruction and recycling respectively. For example, in 2019 we transferred almost 100 tons of waste for destruction and paid more than UAH 500 thousand. About 1,000 tons of wastes generated as a result of manufacturing activities were used in secondary manufacturing. We also transferred about 500 tons of household garbage to the sorting station, spending about UAH 700 thousand.
The development of a waste management system at the state level, which will include social, economic, regulatory, managerial and technical aspects, is an important component of business, society and state sustainable development. The garbage sorting culture should become the norm for our country because it is a way to healthy society and green planet and not just a step towards Europe.
