At the end of May, a group of leading Ukrainian gastroenterologists visited the ICM Farmak manufacturing facility in Spain. ICM (Intensive Care Medicines) is part of Farmak Group and specializes in the production of sterile injectable medicines. The visit took place alongside the physicians’ participation in the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL 2026) Congress in Barcelona and marked the first tour of the Group’s Spanish facility by Ukrainian healthcare professionals.
The plant is equipped with advanced high-tech manufacturing systems and focuses on producing sterile injectable medicinal products used in intensive care, anesthesiology, cardiology, endocrinology, obstetrics and gynecology, psychiatry, as well as oncology and immunology.
The manufacturing complex includes aseptic production lines for medicines in vials and pre-filled syringes, as well as microbiology, research and development (R&D), and quality control laboratories.
Construction of the facility began in 2022. In 2025, the plant received EU Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certification and commenced commercial operations.
The guided tour lasted more than two hours and covered the facility’s key production and quality operations.
“It was encouraging to see both Spanish and Ukrainian professionals working together at the facility. This visit was a valuable professional experience and made me proud of the company’s achievements on the international stage,” said Christina Kvit, gastroenterologist, Associate Professor, and Head of the Lviv Regional Branch of the Ukrainian Gastroenterological Association.
“What impressed me most was the advanced technological infrastructure that enables the production of high-quality medicines. I would also highlight the multi-stage and rigorous quality control processes, the cleanliness of the production areas, and the strict adherence to safety standards,” noted Ihor Skrypnyk, MD, Professor, and President of the Ukrainian Gastroenterological Association.
“You immediately notice the confidence of the team and the fact that every process is carefully designed and regulated. Quality is clearly the top priority. Before entering the manufacturing areas, we underwent special preparation procedures and changed into appropriate protective clothing. It was particularly interesting to learn about the strict access control measures in place. The attention to detail at every stage of production—from equipment setup and solution preparation to quality control and sterility assurance—is truly impressive,” said Maryna Patratii, PhD, Chief Gastroenterologist of Chernivtsi Region.
